TOPIC 11.
LEXICAL AND SEMANTIC FIELDS IN ENGLISH. NECESSARY VOCABULARY FOR SOCIALIZATION, INFORMATION AND EXPRESSION OF ATTITUDES. TYPOLOGY OF ACTIVITIES RELATED TO VOCABULARY LEARNING AND TEACHING IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASS.
As we know, the most traditional vehicle for vocabulary study is the text (in particular), a reading passage. Thus, teachers often expose their students to reading so that by reading a fairy tale, comic, or even a song, students will be acquiring and consolidating vocabulary in a subconscious way. Although children are often reluctant to read, even in their mother tongue, we should not give up but try to find texts which are appealing for our students; or the most appropriate format according to their interest, i.e. using the classroom blog and uploading a personalised comic devised through Comiclife Application. This would surely turn out into a more interesting task for our digital native learners. As a matter of fact, trying to meet our learners’ interests is of utmost relevance, since reading is a leisure activity when one enjoys what s/he is reading, but it can be terribly boring when the text is unappealing for us.
